On the 5th of Oktober 2011 I was sitting on the couch just risen from my sleep still yawning when the news came on like any other Wednesday morning. By the tone of the anchors voice I immediately woke up thinking a disaster had struck somewhere and there was breaking news. Steve Jobs, the famous CEO of Apple inc. had passed away due to pancreatic cancer. My family had always been quite a fan of Apple products and it was always a thrill to watch Job’s presentations so it was a slight dissapointment. After having made toast there were 3 more news headlines which all had the same tone of seriousness which reported this matter. It surprised me that this news was so big in the Netherlands. They conclude by saying ‘ Steve Jobs and Bill gates have drawn a great dael of admiration these d ays for their pioneering successes that changed the world we live in. While well deserved, this admiration may be overrated, as the accomplishments of these celebrated entrepreneurs is a collective rather than an individual act.’2 I agree with this statement which is also talking about Bill gates. Many of Steve Job’s successes weren’t solely made possible by him but by a great deal of unnamed and un-heard of people. This might be speaking only about Steve Jobs as a person and not about his death however its what people think of one before one dies that make someone decide if they give attention to ones death. Although being on the foreground of many of Apple’s milestone achievements I find that Steve Jobs’s death was overrated to a certain extent. The Port of Jacksonville employs 23,000 people and impacts an additional 43,000 employees related to the port’s activity. Anderson mentions that Congress must act fast and focus on critical investment, prioritization and infrastructure for ports to continue its contribution. The TraPac Container Terminal has been affected in doubling its capacity due to the nations slow down; authorizations and processes. Also, Korean shipping company Hanjin has put in hold 200 million investments until they understand what the Government is planning to do and invest to be prepared for the post-Panamax ships. Several considerations must be raised to understand the impact that the Panama Canal expansion will produce, how many deep water ports will be needed to serve post-Panamax ships? Which of those ports will be touched by the ships? How the trade patterns will change? How much are the investments require to serve the post-Panamax ships and what is the specific infrastructure require at each port and in land? How much is the Government willing to invest in infrastructure? Yes, we should accommodate to globalization; the cost and outcome are unknown yet. On the other hand; infrastructure such ports capacity, extra labor to improve productivity, facilities, equipment; technology and a good connectivity network for in land transportation and railroad are key to the success of these investments. To conclude, it looks that competition among the Florida coast ports will be hard; Tampa and Miami are getting ready and making its expansion; Jacksonville understand the needs of expansion but is raising very fair questions not only on the projects but to the Government capacity to respond and maintain infrastructure. Are taxpayer’s dollars’ worth the effort? I believe yes if we take quick action to the new requirements and get a clear understanding that we can afford the expansions. The Greeks were particularly known for their excellent sailing techniques; and there is a very good reason for that. The Greeks originated from the modern Greece country which has an enormous coastline. Also, the country is full of Rocky Mountains making it unsuitable for farming. Therefore, the Greeks turned to the sea to look for food. Their menu consisted of food from the sea and many people made a living from fishing and the associated economic activities such as boat crafting, lumbering and fishing net making. In the long run, they became excellent sailors which proved to be of huge help during the expansion of their kingdom. Also, the boats were used to transport farm produce food from regions which farming was possible. They had domesticated horses which they used as a means of transport and they were also vital in conquering other lands (Murry, 391). On the other hand, the Egyptian Empire was located on a fairly flat land and the river Nile run through it. Other than the Nile providing water for irrigation, it also brought fertile soil from the highlands located in Eastern Africa. Therefore, their menu was composed of vegetables, cereals and fruits. Sea food must have also been in their menu too since the Mediterranean Sea is located on the north. Other than the Egyptians making a living from farming and fishing, some of them were great architects and builders. Some parts of the country had quarries where they mined construction bricks to build their famous temples and tombs. Most of the temples and towns were located near the river, this shows that the river was also used in transportation especially the construction materials. The Egyptians used colossal building bricks and transporting them through land would have been a daunting task (Birckbeck, 307). Mesopotamia is among the earliest civilisation known to us currently. This civilisation was located between the rivers Euphrates and Tigris in Middle East. Both rivers had deposit of clay on their banks and made it one of the most abundant materials in the regio n. The residents used the clay to make utensils, buildings, statues and tablets which were probably used as a writing surface.
